The Skagit Valley Lightning, a semipro team and members of the Evergreen Football League, now calls Wildcat Memorial Stadium its new home.

The Skagit Valley Lightning, a semipro team and members of the Evergreen Football League, now calls Wildcat Memorial Stadium its new home.

Home games were played in Mount Vernon, but Lightning management decided to take advantage of the new Oak Harbor facilities for future games.

Owned by Randy Rogers, Brad Collins and Holly Emmons, the team has players on the roster from Mount Vernon, Anacortes Burlington and Lynnwood in addition to Oak Harbor.

Players on the team range from high school seniors to 40 years of age and some of the players were noticed by junior colleges and given scholarships.

The Lightening is in its second season of operation and in the process of building a successful franchise.

Teams such as the Bellingham Bulldogs, the Okanogan County Cowboys, the Tri-City Knights, the Yakima Mavericks, the State Line Miners, the Wenatchee Valley rams, the Columbia Basin Riverhawks, the Spokane SabreCats, the Blue Mountain Stars, the Palouse Thunder and the South Sound Shockers, in addition to the Lightning are members of the 12-team league.

Two home games remain on the 2008 schedule, the first is Saturday, May 10, against the Bellingham Bulldogs and the final game is Saturday, May 24, when the Lightning host the South Sound Shockers.

Kickoff time for both games is 1 p.m.

Admission is $7 for adults; $4 for senior citizens, members of the military, police officers of firefighters, students with an ID card and children ages 6 to 12.

Children under age 5 are admitted free.

The Evergreen Bowl IV is scheduled for Saturday, June 21.
