Oak Harbor dunks Vikings in pool

En route to a showdown meet against Marysville-Pilchuck on Thursday, Jan. 29, the Oak Harbor High School swim team kept its perfect record intact defeating host Lake Stevens 109-77 in a WesCo North meet Jan. 22.

The Wildcats are 7-0 in league meets and 12-0 overall.

Wrestlers win WesCo match

At Monroe Thursday evening, consecutive pins by Brandon Stratton (135), Ben Page (140), John Tuttle (145) and Jarred Tyson (152) earned the Oak Harbor High School wrestling team its second WesCo North win of the season with a 37-33 victory over the Bearcats.

The match was a close one all the way and Oak Harbor senior Kyle Magana’s 4-3 win over Monroe’s Jordan Moore in the 160-pound resulted in a 37-21 advantage, and lifted Oak Harbor to the Wesco North victory.

Royce Cardwell (119) also won via pinfall.

The Wildcats are 2-4 in league matches and 3-6 overall.

Coupeville wins Wolf Pack battle

Leading scorer Cody Peters was held to nine points, but the Coupeville High School basketball team got a lot of help from junior Jason Bagby and sophomore Hunter Hammer in its 49-39 win over Cedarcrest in Friday Cascade Conference action.

The Wolves took a 15-6 lead after the first eight minutes and scored 27 points in the second half to notch their third straight league victory.

Hammer scored 15 points for Coupeville, 4-3 league, 7-6 overall, and Bagby had 13 points.

Cameron Pardron hit for a game-high 18 points to pace the Red Wolves and teammate Travis Cook tallied 11 points.

Red Wolves nip Wolves in league

Junior Megan Smith scored a game-high 17 points but it wasn’t enough as Coupeville remained winless in Cascade Conference games, losing 43-32 at Cedarcrest Friday night.

The Wolves trailed 14-8 after the first quarter and scored just two points in the second period to drop their seventh straight game and fall to 0-7 in the league and 3-10 overall.

Cassidi Rosenkrance scored nine points for Coupeville.

Rachael Kevin and Anne-Claire Den Hartog led Cedarcrest with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Wildcats still seek first WesCo win

Twenty points by Snohomish’s Ben Wolfe and 11 more by Reed Pecha propelled the host Panthers to a 54-41 WesCo North basketball victory over Oak Harbor Friday night.

The loss was the seventh straight for Oak Harbor, which fell to 0-9 in league games and 1-12 overall.

Oak Harbor was in the hunt at the end of the first quarter trailing 18-12, but managed just eight points in the second period.

Mike Washington Jr. scored 14 points for the Wildcats and teammate Jay Stout was the second player in double figures with 10 points.
