OH volleyball small in stature, big in heart

Even though the Wildcats graduated the entire starting front row of players from last season’s team, head volleyball coach Kerri Molitor said she is happy with the players she has out for the team. “We’re not overly big, but the girls hustle, they get along with one another and they love the game,” she said.

Even though the Wildcats graduated the entire starting front row of players from last season’s team, head volleyball coach Kerri Molitor said she is happy with the players she has out for the team.

“We’re not overly big, but the girls hustle, they get along with one another and they love the game,” she said.

The Wildcats have four solid players in their returning seniors, all of whom had plenty of court time last year.

Setter Melany Cone leads the group, along with outside hitters Devin Tanner and Marissa Sutherland. Rounding out the foursome is defender Emily Meagher.

Junior Amanda Blau, who played on both the junior varsity and varsity teams last season, is back and should be a force along the front line, and Molitor said junior transfer from California Cassie Lantz should also be an asset.

After that, it’s going to have to be former junior varsity players who will have to step up and fill the holes.

Two of these players are Kaitlyn Briscoe and Janessa Ramos.

“We did some camps this summer and they were really good for us,” Molitor said.

Oak Harbor is in the strong WesCo North league, and Molitor said every match the Wildcats play is going to be a difficult one.

“Improving on our 1-7 league record from last season is on our ‘to do’ list,” she said.
