The Oak Harbor Babe Ruth baseball team broke out of an offensive slump but still came up a run shy in an 8-7 loss to Stanwood Wednesday, May 7.

“The boys finally found their bats to score 7 in this game as opposed to two runs over the last four games,” coach Pete Richter said. “Solid work at the plate.”

Chris Trisler led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Thomas Anderson was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Oak Harbor also received a strong performance from pitcher Hunter Smith, who threw five innings and gave up three runs, one earned.

While defense was a problem (only three of Stanwood’s runs were earned), Richter noted it has “improve quite a bit compared to our previous games.”

“We’re pleased with the work the boys have put in at practice,” he added.

Oak Harbor goes to Mount Vernon for an 11 a.m. double header Saturday, May 10.
