Sponsored by the North Whidbey Park and Recreation Department, the City of Oak Harbor and Island County, a new program for teens has been created at the Oak Harbor marina.
The program is the Oak Harbor Marina Dragon Boat Teen program designed for young people ages 14 and older. The program includes kids with physical limitations and no experience.
Anyone interested in joining is encouraged to try out the sport at an upcoming teen clinic set for Aug. 24 through 27 beginning at 5 p.m. Teens may come any or all days.

By being part of the program, teens have the opportunity to participate in festivals and races in the Pacific Northwest.
Dragon boats were first developed in China and are about 48-feet long and paddled by 20 paddlers with a steersperson and a caller.
The program is offered through Northwest Puget Sound Dragon Boat Club, a registered non-profit 501(c)3 organization, as part of their efforts to foster physical activity opportunities for teens.
