The Coupeville High School soccer team was blanked 2-0 at Lakewood Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Although a loss, the match was an indicator of the improvement of the Coupeville squad which fell to the Cougars 7-0 two weeks ago.

Coupeville coach Troy Cowan said, “Nice change, in our first meeting we were totally dominated. New day brought a new fighting spirit and a new outcome. Even though we were still beaten, the match was in question throughout. We gave up two early goals in the first half, but then our defense drew a line in the sand and said, ‘No more.’ Our team played outstanding and gave Lakewood all they could handle.”

Goalkeeper Julia Myers continues to shire for the Wolves, Cowan said. He added, “She has played great all season, but she took her game to another level tonight.”

Cowan lauded the entire defense, calling it the “backbone” and “strongest area” on his team. Of note, freshman Carly Rosenkrance had a “terrific match” against the Cougars (3-3, 3-5).

Offensively, Makana Stone continues to play well, and against Lakewood, the Wolves got a boost from freshmen Mattea Miller and May Rose, according to Cowan.

The Wolves (1-5, 1-6) travel to King’s (5-1, 5-2) at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3.
