Members of Machinists Union District Lodge 751 who work at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station raised more than $3,500 for the North Whidbey Help House through their charity golf tournament Aug. 24 at the Gallery Golf Course.

This was the first fundraiser that Machinists at NAS Whidbey have organized since joining the union, which represents hourly workers at defense contractors L-3 Communications and Delaware Resources Group.

District 751 Business Representative Jon Holden said, “It was a great turnout with impressive results. I hope everyone will come back next year and bring others so we can make it even bigger.”

This year’s event attracted 56 golfers. Willis Roth, Rich Bach, Rick Quintana and Paul Marcello formed the winning team.

The North Whidbey Help House is a community-based food bank that provides supplemental and emergency food, Salvation Army prescription vouchers and telephone health and welfare check-ups for residents of North Whidbey Island.

District Lodge 751 represents 33,000 workers. Last year union volunteers gave more than 10,500 hours of community service while raising a record $299,000 for Guide Dogs of America.
