Two Ferndale goalkeepers combined for a shutout in a 3-0 win over the visiting Oak Harbor High School soccer team Tuesday, March 24.

“We had 18 shots on goal to their six plus a penalty kick,” Oak Harbor coach Brian Thompson said. “I thought we played well most of the game and met our goal of getting more shots on the goal frame. (I’m) looking forward to the next game to see the improvements we can make.”

Oak Harbor played well for the first 25 minutes, Thompson said, then the Wildcats were whistled for a foul in the penalty area, resulting in a yellow card and a Golden Eagle goal.

“We had many chances to score but just couldn’t get it in the net,” Thompson said. “In the second half, we had some communication problems in the defense and they scored two more times.”

Nikita Leonovets and Ful Schonborn each played a half in the Ferndale goal to earn the shutout.

Joshua Seig scored two goals and Luis Morin added the third for Ferndale (1-2-1).

Oak Harbor (0-4) begins Wesco play at Lynnwood (0-1-3) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 27.
