Defensive mistakes hurt the Oak Harbor High School softball team in two losses this week.

The Wildcats fell 9-3 to visiting Stanwood Tuesday, May 13, and 10-0 in six innings at Marysville-Pilchuck Wednesday, May 13.

Stanwood’s final two runs in the seventh inning were its only earned runs as Oak Harbor committed nine errors.

The Spartans (7-6, 8-12) jumped to a 4-0 lead with the help of four Oak Harbor miscues in the first inning and never trailed.

Down 7-0, Oak Harbor scored twice in the fourth inning.

Singles by Kelly Finley and Alexa Findley, a ground out and an error accounted for the runs.

Consecutive singles by Alexa Findley, Tricia Sarns and Nathalie Gotz scored a run in the sixth.

Kat Martinez pitched the first six innings, allowing no earned runs on eight hits and three walks. She struck out two.

Hailey Carpenter made her varsity debut and pitched the seventh and then singled in the bottom half of the inning.

Sydney White also singled for Oak Harbor.

North leader Marysville-Pilchuck (9-4, 12-8) scored seven unearned runs off Sarns as Oak Harbor committed four errors.

Coach Todd Showalter said Sarns “pitched really well” and struck out six.

Gotz collected two singles; and Kelly Findley, Alexa Findley and Sarns had one each.

Oak Harbor (1-11, 2-17) finishes the season at home with Marysville Getchell (5-7, 7-12) at 4 p.m. Friday, May 16.
