Stone sets record in district prelims | Track

Taking part in the first day of the 1A District Track Championship at Lynden Christian High School Wednesday, May 14, Coupeville qualified several athletes for the finals at 5 p.m. Friday, May 16, and Makana Stone lowered her school 200 record.

Finals for four events were held Wednesday; the remainder will be Friday.

No Coupeville boys took part in the finals in the 3,200. Mitchell Carroll finished ninth (34-06.5) and Stephen Edwards 10th (33-10) in the triple jump.

On the girls side, Lauren Grove was 12th in the long jump (16-06.75) and Erin Rosenkranz ran 15th in the 1,600 (6:26.52).

Makana Stone led the list of qualifiers after Wednesday’s preliminaries.

She qualified first in the 400 (1:00.18) and second in the 200 (26.66). Her 200 time bettered her school record of 26.74.

Sylvia Hurlburt was fourth in both the 100 (13.3) and 200 (27.65). Marisa Etzell also reached the finals by placing sixth in the 400 (1:04.58).

In other preliminary results for the girls, Carlie Rosenkrance was 13th in the 800 (2:44.11) and 11th in the 100 hurdles (19.94), and Mattea Miller placed 15th in the 800 (2:48.45).

Jared Helmstadter qualified for the 400 finals after finishing fifth in the prelims (55.43). He was also 10th in the 100 (24.79).
