No one saw this coming.

Shorecrest had a surprisingly easy time in defeating the Oak Harbor High School soccer team in an 8-0 win at Wildcat Memorial Stadium Tuesday, April 15.

The battle between two talented teams soon became a rout.

Oak Harbor controlled play for the first 10 minutes, creating several scoring opportunities.

Then Shorecrest (4-2, 7-2) woke up, scoring five first-half goals.

“As coaches we have all had games where one of our players had a bad game,” Oak Harbor coach Brian Thompson said. “Last night we had a game where the majority of our players had their bad game.”

Anton Resing burned Oak Harbor for four goals; Brandon Okazaki added three assists.

Although the Wildcats (3-3, 5-3-1) lost, they sit in a three-way tie for first in the Wesco North with Stanwood (3-3, 4-4-1) and Marysville-Pilchuck (3-3, 3-6).

“All we can do at this time is move forward, learn from this game and not repeat what we did,” Thompson said. “I have a resilient team and know they will bounce back.”

Oak Harbor will get the chance to rebound when it travels to Lynnwood High School to play Mountlake Terrace (2-4, 3-5) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 18.
