Raymond “E” Lowery, age 88, died at his home in Oak Harbor on June 14, 2012. He was born July 24, 1923 in Dyersburg, Tenn., to Porter and Susie Lowery. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941, serving 23 years and retired as an ADJC (E-7). Ray was married to the former Margaret Guggemous in October 1947, and she preceded him in death in March of 1971. He later married Roberta Knox in October of 1971 and she also preceded him in death.
Following retirement, Ray worked for Boeing, Renton, on the 727 program and then returned to NAS Whidbey, serving as a firefighter for 10 years. He finished his work career at NAS Whidbey Supply Dept. Ray loved to elk hunt and fish with his two sons and his Navy buddies.
Ray is survived by three children, Darlene and Jim Foster, Dale Lowrey and Harvey and Karen Lowery; by three grandchildren, Eric (Laura) Foster, Robert (Jessica) and Lynsey; and one great granddaughter, Aleesia.
Graveside services for Ray Lowery will be held at Maple Leaf Cemetery on Friday, June 29, at 2 p.m. with LCDR. Daniel Link, CHC, USN officiating.
