Orlena Rose ‘Pat’ Rhyne

Orlena Rose “Pat” Rhyne, 81, longtime Coupeville resident, died at her home on May 25, 2008, following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Rhyne was born in South Point, Ohio, on Dec. 19, 1926, to Charles Baise and Ora (Money) Baise. She attended schools in Huntington, W.V., where she graduated from high school. Pat met William Joseph Rhyne and they were married in Huntington on Sept. 18, 1948. After a year, the couple moved to Emporium, Penn., where they resided until 1957, when Bill’s involvement in the aerospace program led them to Santa Clara County, Calif. Following his retirement in 1983, they moved to Coupeville. Pat was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she served a number of years in the Altar Society. She was a skilled seamstress.

Pat is survived by her daughter Sheila Rhyne of Coupeville; a son, Michael Rhyne; one grandson, Corp. Preston Michael Rhyne, USMC, serving in the Middle East; one sister, Charlotte Bush of Covington, Ky. ; two brothers, John Baise of Ohio and Carl Baise of Kansas ; numerous nieces, nephews and other realtives; also, an adopted son, Paul Kuzina and wife Heidi of Oak Harbor, and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill in September 1997; also, by one sister, Dorothy and by two brothers, Harry and Russell.

Visitation will take place Thursday, May 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Whidbey Memorial Chapel. Recitation of the Rosary will be Friday, May 30, at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will take place Saturday, May 31, at 10 a.m., Rev. Philip Raether, Celebrant. Private inurnment will take place at Sunnyside Cemetery. Arrangements are with the assistance of Whidbey Memorial Funeral and Cremation Service, Oak Harbor.
