Margaret Nold

Margaret F. “Peggy” Nold went to be with her Lord Jan. 2, 2005, at the age of 74. She was born Dec. 6, 1930, in Newark, N.J., to John Garrett and Margaret (Turner) Farley.

Peggy was raised in West Orange, N.J., graduating from high school in 1948. She attended Newark State Teachers College, receiving her bachelor of science degree in education in 1952. She taught elementary school for five years in West Orange and also in Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.

Peggy was married to Frank L. Nold in West Orange, N.J., June 26, 1954. As Frank and Peggy began their family, Peggy became a stay-at-home mom. With Frank’s career the family lived in Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.; Newburgh and Owego, N.Y.; Doylestown, Pa.; Owego, N.Y. and finally Whidbey Island, where they made Coupeville their retirement home.

Peggy attended the Good Shepherd Assembly of God Church in Coupeville, while maintaining her membership in the First Presbyterian Union Church in Owego, N.Y. She was a member of the Coupeville Garden Club and volunteered at Island County Historical Museum in Coupeville.

Peggy enjoyed gardening, reading, and singing, especially choral pieces. She was most proud of her children and grandchildren. She and Frank celebrated 50 years of marriage this past June with her entire family.

Peggy is survived by her husband Frank at the family home, Coupeville; by three children and their spouses, Garrett C. “Garry” Nold of Kent; Melanie E. and James Bono of New Boston, N.H., and Amy L. and Matthew Liberty of Owego, N.Y.; and four grandchildren, Emily Bono and Abigail Bono of New Boston, N.H., and Mary Liberty and Danny Liberty of Owego, N.Y. Her parents, one sister Eileen Schmidt and one daughter-in-law Nancy Hosking Nold preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Peggy Nold will be held at Burley Funeral Chapel Thursday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m., with Rev. David Chittim officiating. A reception for family and friends will be held at the funeral chapel immediately following the services. Visitation will precede the services from 5 to 7 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Sunnyside Cemetery, Coupeville Friday, Jan. 7, at 10 a.m.

Memorials may be made to the Coupeville Garden Club, Friends of the Coupeville Library or your favorite charity. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
