Lois L. Hansen, 79, died Feb. 23, 2011, at her home in Oak Harbor. She was born Sept. 10, 1931, in Tacoma to Frank and Christene (Moon) Gillihan. Lois spent her early years in Tacoma before moving to Yakima where she graduated from Yakima High School.

Lois found a job with the phone company in Yakima, working as an operator for three years. She met the love of her life, Jack C. Hansen, and in 1954 they were married at the Base Chapel, Naval Station San Diego. She became a devoted Navy wife, raising her family while following Jack’s career with the U.S. Navy. Lois was a wonderful homemaker who excelled in cooking and delighted in making holidays and birthdays special occasions for her family.

After Jack’s retirement from the Navy, Lois enjoyed working in her yard at the beautiful family home on the bluff overlooking Oak Harbor and the Cascades. She became a member of the Oak Harbor Garden Club and derived great delight in feeding the many birds that frequented her home, especially the hummingbirds and bald eagles.

Lois is survived by four children: Kris and Robin Hansen of Anacortes, Ray and Eileen Hansen of Spokane, Alex Hansen of Eatonville, and Patricia and John King of Sequim; by grandchildren Jhanna Parker, Tim, Karina, Dustin, Jordan, Isaac, Michael, Havilah, Karianna, and Jonathan Hansen, Jacqueline Manso, Jen Nunn and Mary King; her great-grandchildren, Zachariah Parker, Ava Hansen and Makenzie Nunn; one niece, Nicole Bounds; three grandnieces and a great grandniece; a half-sister, Judie Gabrielle; and a stepsister, Sylvia Giammona.

Her husband, Jack, and one sister, Patricia Bounds, preceded her in death.

Memorial services for Lois will be held at Wallin Funeral Home on Saturday, March 12, at 1 p.m. with Father Philip Raether officiating. Cremation was held and internment will follow the service at Maple Leaf Cemetery. A reception will be held at the funeral home immediately following the burial.
