Leslie K. Douglas, beloved daughter of Lea Madison and sister of Shannon, passed away early Tuesday morning, May 27, 2008. She was surrounded by her family and best friend, Cheryl Kay.
Born in Fort Monmouth, N.J., on Oct. 23, 1958, she made an early entrance into this world. Unfortunately, she left the same way. Before leaving, she managed to do most of the things she wanted to do.
Leslie loved reading, traveling, crafting, writing, and playing bingo with her mother. Stamping was another of her loves; she made beautiful cards and invitations for friends.
Leslie will be lovingly remembered for her kind and generous heart. Her outgoing and engaging personality drew people to her and kept them close. A free spirit, Leslie was never one to judge others. A savvy shopper, she loved showing off the great bargains she’d find.
When it came to her pets, Leslie’s heart was bottomless. She always had at least one dog and at one time or another, had goats, chickens, cats, and birds.
Although Leslie had no children of her own, she took special pride in being godmother to Cheryl Kay’s five children; Jennifer, Mikel, Christel, Kathleen, and Andrew. She especially loved being “grand godmother” to Kayden, Jennifer’s daughter. She was looking forward to playing the same role for Christel’s baby daughter, Alivia.
Besides her mother and sister, Leslie is survived by her aunts, Kikumi Endo of Carson, Calif., Esther Thompson of Monterey Park, Calif., Mary Endo of Mission Hills, Calif., and Fusae Endo of Placentia, Calif.; her uncles, are Frederick Endo of Japan and Chiaki Endo of Albuquerque, N.M.; other aunts and uncles are Shirley and Jim Knox of Pineola, N.C. Nancy and Vito Scurto of Chula Vista, Calif., and Joyce Madison of McMinnville, Tenn. She also leaves her special friends Olga Jenkins of New York City, Cheryl Kay of Anacortes, and Roy Douglas of Oak Harbor. Numerous cousins also survive.
Leslie was preceded in death by her father, James, and baby brother, Michael.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Burley Funeral Chapel. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Home Health Care Hospice of Whidbey General Hospital or WAIF.
Condolences and personal reflections may be left for the family at www.burleyfuneralchapel.com.
