John ‘Rick’ Rickmar Martin, of Crooked River Ranch, Ore., died April 2, 2004, of heart disease. He was 55. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 10, at Crooked River Ranch Senior Center.
Mr. Martin was born Feb. 16, 1949, in Bonne Terre, Mo., to Cullen and Nettie (Strickland) Martin. He graduated from high school in Bountiful, Utah. He then joined the U.S. Marines. He served in Vietnam as a sergeant and received a Purple Heart.
After the war, he returned to Bountiful, Utah, and lived there for several years. He moved to Whidbey Island in 1974. He married Darlene Noble Aug. 31, 1991, on Whidbey Island. He moved to Crooked River Ranch, Ore., six years ago.
Mr. Martin worked in construction and landscaping. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing.
Survivors include his wife Darlene of Crooked River Ranch, Ore.; two sons, Mike of Whidbey Island and Talon of Crooked River Ranch, Ore.; a daughter, Katherine of Crooked River Ranch, Ore.; a brother, Patrick, of Farr West, Utah; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
