James Vincent Casey

James Vincent Casey was born Aug. 28, 1935, to Thomas and Melva Mae Bowman Casey in Conrad, Mont. He passed away Dec. 24, 2010, at his home in Portland, Ore.

At age seven he moved with his stepfather John Sinema, mother and sisters to Greenbank, Whidbey Island. They spent the first winter in the old Sears House then to the Greenbank Berry Farm. After graduating from Coupeville High School in 1953 he enrolled in the Army, which took him to Anchorage, Alaska, as a teletype operator.

In 1961 he married Geraldine Fagerstrom and together they had Kim and Chris. After their divorce he went on to earn his BA in sociology at WWU. Employment was mostly associated with drug/alcohol recovery.

Jim is survived by his spouse, Terrie; children, Kim Marie Hurt (Jeff) and Chris Lewis Casey (Carolyn); five grandchildren and one great- grandchild; sister Norma Knutsen (Loren); and brother John Sinema (Cherry).

Preceding him in death and clearing the road of obstacles: stepfather John and mother Melva Sinema, and sister Leda (Casey) Baker.

A Memorial/Gathering will be at the Greenbank Progressive Club, 3090 Firehouse Road, Greenbank, Saturday, June 4, from noon until 5 p.m.
