James “Ted” Stambaugh

James “Ted” Stambaugh, Jr. 73, of Orient, Iowa, passed away July 19, 2008 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

James Theodore Stambaugh, Jr., son of Lorraine Toska (Wimmer) Stambaugh and James Theodore Stambaugh, Sr., was born Sept. 4, 1934 in Seattle. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1952. He studied at Washington State, and would later graduate from Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, and on active duty in the Naval Reserves from 1961 to 1962. On Sept. 17, 1955, he married Katherine L. McKee in San Francisco. They moved to Seattle where Ted worked for AT&T as a lineman. They then moved to Ankeny, Iowa, where Ted earned his bachelor’s degree in Christian Education in 1973. They returned to western Washington in 1973, and Ted worked with Nichols Boat Builders of Freeland. In later years, he worked at the local hospital in Anacortes. They moved back to Iowa and settled in Orient in 2000. Ted was working for Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Creston. Survivors include his wife, Katherine Stambaugh of Orient; three daughters, Robin Stambaugh of Henderson, Nev., Barbara Rutledge of Victorville, Calif. and Sarah (husband Gene) Hurley of Fallon, Nev.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (wife Patti) Stambaugh of Kent, Wash.; a sister, Elizabeth Malmstadt of Chinook, Wash; brother-in-law, Ivan (wife Darlene) McKee of Cedar Falls, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Lyla Carroll of Clarksville, LaVonne Cimburek of Creston, and Janet Magnuson of Kirkland; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Clifford “Toby,” an infant daughter, Rebecca JoAnn, and one sister-in-law.

Celebration of Life services were held July 24 at the First Baptist Church in Creston. Pastor Robert Sauser officiated. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his name. Online condolences may be given under the obituary category at www.powersfh.com.
