Emma Jane Ferrier

Emma Jane Ferrier passed away at Whidbey Island Manor on April 9, 2009, at the age of 86. She was born Dec. 18, 1922, in Chester, Penn., to Rebecca and Spencer Burbank. Emma grew up in Chester, and graduated from Ridley Township High School in 1942. Emma was married to Norman B. Ferrier on Oct. 12, 1942, in Woodlyn, Pen. She was active in the Girls Scouts of America, Christian Women, Oak Harbor Garden Club, Whidbey Island 4-H and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Unit 129. She also enjoyed spending time researching her family genealogy and American history.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Rebecca Maria. She is survived by her husband; son, Norman, Mineola, Texas; two daughters, Ellen Vrbas, Oak Harbor, and Margaret Miller, Olathe, Kan.; seven grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at Oak Harbor Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be given in Emma’s name to the Girl Scouts of the United States of America.
