Elizabeth Marie Caron

Elizabeth Marie Caron, age 82, died suddenly on Dec. 16, 2010, at Providence Medical Center, Everett. She was born at the family home in Hollis (Queens), N.Y., on March 25, 1928, to Arthur and Madeline Kuntz. She attended St. Gerard Majella Elementary School and went on to graduate from Bishop McDonald High School in Queens.

Elizabeth attended Kings County School of Nursing, where she received her license as a Registered Nurse. Over the next few years, she worked at several hospitals in the New York area including the American Red Cross on Long Island and St. Albans Naval Hospital, where she met her future husband, Joseph A. Caron.

She married Joseph on Feb. 11, 1956, at St. Gerard Majella Church. She and Joe moved to Wethersfield, Conn., and began to raise a family. Soon daughter, Barbara, arrived, followed by son, Robert, and finally, daughter, Madeline.

Elizabeth returned to nursing once her children were older. She and Joe finally retired, settling in Palm Bay, Fla., in 1991. Joe died on July 1, 2001, after 45 years of marriage. In 2001, she left Florida and moved to Novi, Mich., to be close to her daughter, Madeline and grandchildren, David and Stephanie Lux. In 2003, when the Luxes moved to Shanghai, China, she settled in Oak Harbor to be near her daughter, Barbara.

Elizabeth was a very active member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church of Oak Harbor. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, St. Augustine’s Rosary Makers and the St. Maria Guild. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting and gardening and was a Past President of Wethersfield’s Bud and Blossom Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, in 2001 and sister, Madeline A. Leonard, in 2004. Survivors include her children: Barbara A. Caron of Oak Harbor, Robert J. Caron and spouse Katie of Wethersfield, Conn., and Madeline M. Lux and husband Jeff of Oberusel, Germany; and by twin grandchildren, David J. and Stephanie C. Lux, also of Germany.

Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church on Dec. 22 with Rev. Jerry Kienzle as Celebrant. A reception followed in the Parish Hall. Cremation was held with family internment prayers to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Maspeth, N.Y. Friends may sign the online guest book at www.wallinfuneralhome.com.
