Donald Camburn

Donald Camburn, 89, of Waretown, formerly of Toms River, N.J., passed away Nov. 4, 2010, in Oak Harbor at his home in the company of his loving wife.

Born in Waretown, N.J., Donald served as a direct consequence of the Japanese attack upon Pearl Harbor. He left his accounting job to join the United States Army Air Corp.

During World War II while in England he met a lovely lady who soon became the love of his life. For 63 years of his life he was married to his wife and best friend Dorothy Woods Camburn. They shared many remote duty stations together.

In the Air Force he was an Air Traffic Controller. When he retired from the United States Air Force he obtained the rank of Master Sergeant. After he retired he returned to the tower to work as an Air Traffic Controller at NAS Whidbey for the Civil Service for 30-plus years.

He was predeceased by his brother Ernest Grant Camburn, Bayville; and sisters Rita Weyman of Whiting and Miriam Applegate.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy M. Camburn of Oak Harbor; and his brother-in-law Alvin Applegate of Toms River.

Special thanks to Jacqueline Coon and Westley Young for caring for my husband Donald.

The family suggests donations be made to WAIF of Oak Harbor in memory Donald R. Camburn. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel where family and friends may go online at www.burleyfuneralchapel.com to sign a guest register and leave memories for the family.
