Delva Louise Litwiller

Delva Louise Litwiller (Lebengood) died peacefully Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at age 90 surrounded by her loving family.

Delva was born May 22, 1920, in Portland, Ore., to Carl and Eva Lebengood. She attended school in Salem where she met her future husband Marvin “Shorty” Litwiller. They were married May 29, 1942 and were together until his passing in 1989. They moved to Whidbey Island in 1977.

A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Delva is survived by her children, Ron and Barb Litwiller of Port Orchard, Nancy and Bob Acker of Whidbey Island, Tom Litwiller and Scott of Everett, Frank and Jill Litwiller of Whidbey Island, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and her dear friend Harry “Bud” Heslet. She was preceded in death by her husband Shorty and brothers Walter and Larnel.

By her example, Delva taught us many lessons of love, devotion and endurance in the face of life’s adversities. She always welcomed neighbors, accepted others and made friends wherever she went. She enjoyed dancing, singing, knitting, cooking her favorite recipes, playing knock poker, bingo and playing the harmonica, kazoo and drums in the senior fun band. She especially loved to spend time at the beach and vacations on the Oregon coast. Delva brought much joy and touched many hearts in her life, and will be forever missed by her family and friends.

The family would like to extend our many thanks and gratitude to the wonderful staff at Regency Harbor Care of Oak Harbor for their loving and compassionate care of our mother. Friends and family may also view the online obituary, sign and leave messages at www.visserfuneralhome.com.

There will be a funeral service to celebrate her life at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Langley. Graveside will follow at the Langley Woodmen Cemetery.
