David Mathew Graham, 77, died suddenly at his home in Greenbank Oct. 24, 2002. He was born June 8, 1925 in Los Angeles to Mathew and Evalyn (Wilson) Graham, Jr.
Mr. Graham was raised in Los Angeles. Following graduation from high school he attended Stanford University. World War II interrupted his education. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 as an airman radio operator. Mr. Graham returned to Stanford, where he received his master’s degree in mechanical engineering. He was married March 6, 1954 to the former Patricia K. Curran in Beverly Hills, Calif.
Mr. Graham began work with his father at Mat Graham Co. in Studio City, Calif., as an industrial equipment appraiser. He eventually took over the role of president and chief executive officer of the company, retiring in 1985. The Grahams moved to Whidbey Island in 1987, settling in the Smugglers Cove area.
Mr. Graham was a life member of the American Society of Appraisers. He enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, genealogy, photography, classic music, model building, travel and hiking.
Mr. Graham is survived by his wife Patricia, at the family home. He is survived by four children and their spouses: Virginia Graham Knorr and husband Ronald, of Everett; Kathryn Ellen Forgrave and husband Robert of Kirkland; Margery Graham Anderson and husband Steven Anderson of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and Barbara Graham Lovato and husband Jay of Poulsbo. Ten grandchildren also survive. One sister preceded him in death.
Mr. Graham requested no formal funeral services be conducted. Cremation was held with private family inurnment to follow at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor, Washington. This obituary may be found on-line at http://burley.plan4ever.com.
