Charlotte Bertha Schaff

Charlotte Bertha Schaff, 94, of Anacortes, died July 6, 2006 at San Juan Rehab and Care Center in Anacortes, following an extended illness. She was the widow of the Reverend Clyde A. Schaff, a United Methodist clergyman, who died in 1982.

Charlotte was born Sept. 9, 1911, in Woodhaven, Long Island, N.Y., the daughter of the late, Peter J. and Bertha Emily (Druet) DeLorey. Most of her formative years were spent in Lake Ariel, Penn. She was a graduate of Lake Ariel High School and Wyoming Seminary College of Business in Kingston. Charlotte served as a minister’s wife in the Wyoming Conference and Southern New Jersey Conference. Later, she lived in Westmont, Cherry Hill, Avon-by-the-Sea, and Malaga, N.J. Charlotte served as youth adviser in camps and conferences and was a Girl Scout leader. She was a member of Haddonfield United Methodist Church and a 60-year member of Harriet Green Chapter 198 Order of Eastern Star, where she was past matron.

She was a beloved mother and grandmother. Charlotte was preceded in death by her daughter, Verlynne Needham, in 1960, and her son, Ross Schaff, in 1995. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Clyde Pierre and Annie Schaff of Oak Harbor; three grandchildren, Karl S. Schaff, Karin L. Schaff, and David L. Schaff, all of Anchorage, Alaska; two great-grandchildren, Darby Schaff and Jordan Schaff; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lillian Cramer and Louise Grippi, both of Moscow, Penn., and Natalie Moore, of Lake Ariel, Penn.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 15, at Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst, Penn. In lieu of flowers, Charlotte requested that donations be made to Lake Ariel UMC, P.O. Box 145, Lake Ariel, PA., 18436. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. in Anacortes, and also the James Wilson Funeral Home in Lake Ariel.
