Caroline Louise Davidson

Caroline Louise Davidson passed away May 30, 2007, at Careage in Coupeville. She was 96 years old.

She was a Whidbey Island resident for almost 30 years and loved the beauty of the island.

Carol was born June 16, 1911, in Toledo, Ohio, where she was raised. The youngest of four children. In Toledo she attended high school and secretarial school.

Once married to her second husband, they moved to California in 1942 to start a new life.

There Carol was asked to model. She modeled in the first fashion shows at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, and taught at USC Charm Modeling School.

During this time Carol’s husband owned and operated a termite control business until his death. Carol then became the first woman to be licensed to get a C22 contractor’s license and a structural termite control license in California. She headed a company of 26 employees.

Carol also worked for the Army in the secretarial pool and eventually as the Commanding Officer’s secretary.

Later Carol went on to TRW of California as the executive secretary to the head of the Apollo moon shot project and personally carried the computer tapes for the flight to the moon to Vandenberg Air Force Base.

She came to Whidbey Island in 1978 with her husband Walt. Carol fell in love with Whidbey Island, Coupeville and her home in Sierra.

Her proudest contribution was to the community when she was voted the first “Mother Hubbard” of the Coupeville Harvest Fest. She loved to participate in parades and rode on numerous floats in Oak Harbor and Coupeville and even rode on a float during a Seafair Parade.

She represented Island Transit’s para-transit program in some of these events and even went to Olympia to help rally for continued funding for transit projects. Carol was a cancer survivor.

Carol outlived three of four husbands and had numerous nieces and nephews. She traveled around the United States and Europe and led a remarkable life, active, upbeat, full of social engagements and optimism.

Carol is survived by her nephew James Joseph of Ojai, Calif.; niece Lucine Joseph of Coupeville; Wolfgang Hollerbach, nephew, of Neu-Isenberg, Germany; Molly Kelly, niece; Par Pupp, niece; and great nieces Michele Joseph, Ellen Joseph and Suzanne Joseph, all of California; and great-nephew David Tolford of California.
