Carl S. Wiechert

Carl S. Wiechert, 72, of Oak Harbor, died July 26, 2007, in Seattle. He was born in Honolulu on Jan. 1, 1935, to Stephen and Myrtle (Fernandez) Wiechert, where he was raised. He then went to the University of Washington and received a BA Degree in Radio and Television in 1957.

On Dec. 7, 1957, he entered the United States Navy. From May 1961 to July 1969 he was stationed at NAS Whidbey, where he married Brigitte Neumann on Feb. 8, 1969. Carl served his country during the Vietnam war and eventually retired as a Lieutenant Commander in 1978.

While working in real estate, he attended Skagit Valley College and received an ATA Degree in Business Management. He ran the Veterans Administration office at the college, and then the admissions office as an assistant, and eventually retired after 16 years there in June 2002.

Carl continued to enjoying flying, golf, reading and story telling, and University of Washington Huskies sports.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years Brigitte J. Wiechert of Oak Harbor; son Stephen R. Wiechert (and his wife Jennifer) of Bellevue, and their children Davis and Evan; daughter Sabine C. Cody (and her husband Christopher) of Renton; sisters Myrtle Beamer (and her husband Francis) of Kameula, Hawaii, Jean Kalani (and her husband Joseph) of Chula Vista, Calif., and Angeline Locey of Anahoca, Hawaii; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Viewing and visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Burley Funeral Chapel in Oak Harbor, followed by military honors at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, 1:45 p.m., Thursday, August 2.
