Burton Ray Williams

Burton Ray Williams, 88, of Lake Stevens, passed away July 3, 2008, at Providence Medical center, Everett with his family at his bedside.

Burt was born and raised on a farm in Tryon, N.C. He then headed west and worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps before joining the Navy. He was very proud of his military service and contributions as a torpedo man on battleships during World War II. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor as well and eventually retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Office while living in Oak Harbor.

Burt operated his own electrical shop in Oak Harbor for a short time. He also enjoyed another successful career as a civil service electrician before retiring in 1978. Rosella, his first wife, had passed prior to that, and he re-married Aliss, his second wife. He was able to spend many years of a long retirement traveling, golfing, fishing and spending time with family.

Burt is survived by his five children: Madelaine Fleet and husband Hugh of Marysville; Christine Klinkhammer and husband Mike of Battleground; Dave Williams and wife Joelle of Lake Stevens; Linda Meyers and husband Jim of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; and Tom Williams and wife Tami of Lake Stevens; and 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren who he was very proud of. Two sisters, Nell and Jeanette, also survive.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Maple Leaf Cemetery, Oak Harbor, at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 10. Rev. Ron Eerkes of the New Covenant Fellowship Church, Oak Harbor, will officiate. Full military honors under the auspices of the NAS Whidbey Island Honor Guard will follow. Arrangements entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
