Bruce Cameron McCulloch

Bruce Cameron McCulloch, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, died Nov. 17, 2010.

Bruce was born Feb. 13, 1960, and grew up in Shoreline, Wash., attended Parkwood Elementary, Cordell Hull Jr. High and graduated from Shoreline High School in 1978. Bruce attended the University of Washington and earned bachelor degrees in Anthropology and History. He worked at Rite Aid Drugstore for 24 years and was a supervisor at the University Avenue store when he left in 2004.

Bruce was a loving, kind, considerate man who put others before himself and lived by his Christian faith. He loved nature and all creatures great and small, especially his dog, Tyler. He enjoyed tennis, hiking, reading history books and the classics, playing the piano, classical music and Bob Marley. He also enjoyed creative writing, composed piano pieces and published playful self-help books. He was a lifelong scholar who never stopped researching topics of interest but was understated about his knowledge.

He was accepted into the Masters of Education program at the University of Washington but because of ill health, had to quit. He taught for Americorps and in the Basic Skills program at Coupeville Elementary. He loved working with children and delighted in watching them learn.

Bruce is survived by parents, Bill and Carolyn McCulloch, brother Bill McCulloch, sister Kelly McCulloch, nieces Jessica and Caite McCulloch, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

All who knew him loved this man, whose soul was too tender for this earth.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland on Whidbey Island at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10. In lieu of flowers, online donations in Bruce’s name may be made to WAIF or NAMI.
