Anna Mae Chapman

Anna Mae Chapman passed away March 28, 2011, in Coupeville at the age of 84 surrounded by family. She was born Oct. 15, 1926, in Seattle, to Willet Stanton Farr and Katherine Gooding. She attended Bryant Elementary and Roosevelt High School in Seattle. Anna Mae worked in the banking industry while attending the University of Washington.

She married Frank Lee Jr. and they had three children: Donna Wagner of Oak Harbor, Patricia (Mike) Kamp of Seattle, and Jeff (Julie) Lee of Clearwater, Fla. She married Wayne Chapman in 1975 and moved to Oak Harbor from Kirkland. Anna Mae became second mother to Wayne’s four children: Rick (Michele) Chapman of Oak Harbor, Larry Chapman of Coupeville, Barbara Nicholson of Oak Harbor and Carrie (Pat) Shelley of Oak Harbor. Anna Mae is survived by two sisters, Helen (Jim) Vaux and Pam (Don) Ivey, 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bill Farr, sister Betty Cox and husband Wayne.

Anna Mae was a very talented and accomplished painter. She studied painting throughout her life, creating beautiful canvases that are admired by many.

Anna Mae loved the water. She performed water ballet for 10 years, was a swimming instructor and taught many of her children and grandchildren to swim. She lived by the water throughout her life.

Anna Mae and Wayne had the opportunity to travel to many parts of the United States, the Caribbean and Europe. She was also active in her church and community. Anna Mae made many friends in the area over the past 35 years giving much joy to those around her. Her calendar was full of luncheons, dinners and spending time with friends and family.

A memorial service will be held for friends and family on Friday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church followed by a reception at the Oak Harbor Yacht Club.
