Alma Marie Brown

Alma Marie Brown passed peacefully at home, after an extended illness, on June 11, 2008, surrounded by family.

Marie was born Jan. 13, 1925, and grew up in Union City, Tenn. She didn’t much like her first name and always went by Marie. She had childhood polio, which affected her ability to walk. In the last three years she developed post polio syndrome disorder, which caused her to need assistance breathing. Bill refused to put her in a nursing home and insisted on caring for her at home.

Marie enjoyed knitting and had a lifelong love for art. She did paintings in both oil and watercolor. Many of her paintings were given to friends and family and more can be found in their home. She was a past member of the Elks Emblem Club.

The remainder of Marie’s obituary is included in her husband, William Hughes Brown’s, obituary. Bill died June 18.

A memorial service will be held for Bill and Marie at the Church on the Rock, 1780 SE 4th Ave., Oak Harbor, Thursday, June 26, at 4 p.m.

Arrangements are with the assistance of Whidbey Memorial Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc.
