Soon we will be receiving ballots about the upcoming hospital bond issue and we will have to decide whether or not to support it.

I will be voting yes, and here is why.

In my professional capacity, I work with individuals who are in need of a variety of assistance. Recently, one of my clients was in desperate need of care and Whidbey General Hospital was there for him and me. When my client’s condition deteriorated recently, I had to call 911 and ask for paramedics to meet us at the Clinton ferry dock. The paramedics transported my client to Whidbey General Hospital and I followed in my car. The next seven days were an emotional roller-coaster as we worked to stabilize my client. The support I received from the hospital was what got me through.

I cannot thank Whidbey General Hospital enough for how they handled everything. Their support, kindness, and excellent care never fell short of perfect. They communicated daily with my client’s neurologist to stabilize and treat him. They provided an RN round the clock and as shifts changed, one doctor smoothly picked up where the other left off. What amazed me most was how everyone listened and was willing to take the time to go the extra mile. When I asked to talk to the doctor, I never had to wait long and they always wanted to hear my thoughts.

Another thing that really stands out was the ER Nurse, Sue Zaveruha. She was a straight forward, no nonsense, and always kind and compassionate. I observed her going the extra mile for me as well as my client. Debbie, the social worker also went the extra mile when she explained my client’s long-term care plan. Her compassion and support was the strength I needed. What a successful experience, thank you Whidbey General Hospital and all involved staff members.

Whidbey General Hospital is always there for us … and now we need to be there for them.
