Truck snaps phone line along Midway in Oak Harbor

A delivery truck caught a phone line as it rounded the corner at the intersection of Midway Boulevard and Whidbey Avenue Wednesday morning.

A delivery truck caught a phone line as it rounded the corner at the intersection of Midway Boulevard and Whidbey Avenue Wednesday morning.

Several buildings were damaged as the taut line came loose from the pole and knocked into roofs, including a dentist’s office.

“It was a huge amount of tension,” said Capt. Craig Anderson with the Oak Harbor Fire Department.

“It is a big cable.”

At first, responders were worried it was a power line, but it is a communication cable used by Frontier Communications.

The driver told firefighters he had rounded this corner before with no problems.

Workers were repairing the damage, which didn’t appear to be major, said Matthew VanGiesen, a special services technician with Frontier.
