Sunday comeback sparks three-peat at Whidbey Country Club invitational

Eric McCardle stormed back from four strokes down to capture his third straight Whidbey Golf and Country Club Invitational over the drizzly Memorial Day weekend.

After trailing Brian Wasinger (71) and former Oak Harbor High School teammate Phil Reedy (73) after Saturday’s first round with a 75, McCardle shot a blistering seven-under 65 Sunday to run away from the field with a two-day total of 140.

Reedy and Marty Loberg finished eight strokes back at 148 to grab second place. Tracy Vass and Mike Zarranoandia tied for fourth at 149.

Harold Olson took top net honors (134).

Flight 2 winners were Mel Elvebak (gross, 157) and Kevin Mckeown and Lenny Cohn (net, 141).

Olson (gross, 162) and Andy Bullington (net, 136) captured Flight 3.
