Students to arrive in time for breakfast

The start and end times at the elementary and middle schools will change back to a more uniform schedule next fall.

The school district had a one-year effort to reduce busing costs by staggering the start and end times, but it didn’t pan out.

Transportation director Francis Bagarella said the different breakfast times complicated the bus schedule.

“We had to be several places at several different times. One school’s breakfast would start at 8:25 or 7:35 or 7:25 and we would rush over. We were spread pretty thin,” Bagarella said.

A delay in traffic or an emergency would throw drivers off for the rest of the morning.

“It didn’t save us anything,” he said.

The schedule will return to the normal schedule of previous years to make sure each student arrives in time for breakfast.

The bell schedule for next year will be:

• Broad View Elementary School: 9 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.

• Crescent Harbor Elementary School: 9 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.

• Olympic View Elementary School: 9 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.

• Hillcrest Elementary School: 9 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.

• Oak Harbor Elementary School: 9 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.

• Oak Harbor and North Whidbey middle schools: 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
