A 38-year-old Clinton man who is a Level II, registered sex offender is accused of molesting a 4-year-old child, according to court documents.
Prosecutors charged Dallas Broyles in Island County Superior Court Oct. 1 with child molestation in the first degree and incest in the second degree. He pleaded not guilty Monday.
The prosecutor is alleging aggravating circumstances for both charges, which could lead to a sentence beyond the standard sentencing range of four years and three months to five years and eight months in prison. Specifically, the prosecutor alleges that Broyles “used his position of trust, confidence or fiduciary responsibility to facilitate the commission of the current offense.”
On Sept. 26, Superior Court Judge Alan Hancock set Broyles’ bail at $100,000 and authorized a sexual assault protection order barring Broyles from contacting the alleged victim.
According to a report by Island County Sheriff’s Detective Sue Quandt, Broyles admitted to a woman that he had touched the child inappropriately. Broyles told the woman he “had been having those thoughts again” and that he had been visiting a pornographic store next to the sex addict group classes he had been attending.
A Level II sex offender is considered to have a moderate risk to reoffend. The Island County sheriff is responsible for setting the risk levels for sex offenders.
