I am a student at OHHS and I have listened to the concerns of people who think we shouldn’t renovate it. I am writing this to show people why they should vote “yes” on May 20.
Most people don’t know that as of right now there are about 1,800 students attending the high school, however, when the school was originally built it was designed to hold 1,200 students. The Oak Harbor School District has tried its best to keep the high school in the best shape they can but it has proved to be an extremely difficult task.
The ceiling of Parker Hall is falling down, as are other ceilings. There are classrooms with one or even no computers. There is a computer lab but it is almost always filled so there are numerous times where students won’t be able to research. At times the halls resemble I-5 on Monday morning, hallways are so packed with students that it is impossible to take a full stride.
The stage is far too small. Some of our teams (specifically softball) are forced to play their games across the street at Hillcrest Elementary School because our current fields are already being used. Our track and field area is deteriorating, as are our buildings. As a student, I urge you all to vote yes on May 20.
