Hummingbird Farm Nursery and Gardens is holding its first Family Scarecrow Contest and Food Drive to benefit North Whidbey Help House. The event will celebrate a “Plant a Row for the Hungry” harvest at the farm.
The contest is open to families, individuals, organizations and businesses on Whidbey Island.
Scarecrow entries and fees will be accepted through Oct. 23. Early entries will be on display during the Whidbey Island Farm Tour, which takes place Oct. 3 and 4.
The entry fee is one paper grocery bag filled with nonperishable food items or $20.
Scarecrow displays will be voted on by visitors to Hummingbird Farm through Oct. 30. People have to pay 1 cent to vote and multiple votes are encouraged.
Winners will be announced at 2 p.m., Oct. 31 during the farm’s Oak Harbor Winter Market.
All food and money collected will be donated to the North Whidbey Help House.
