Homelessness on Whidbey
Doris Newkirk, executive director of Whidbey Island Share a Home, will share her perspective on homelessness on Whidbey Sunday, Aug. 7, at 10 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, one mile north of Freeland off Highway 525. Church picks Strong as family coordinator
Will Strong has been named administrative assistant and family coordinator at the Coupeville United Methodist Church effective Aug. 1.
Strong has been the part time youth director at the church since last year. This promotion expands his responsibilities and adds new levels of youth and family support under the position of family coordinator.
Strong grew up in central Nebraska, earned his degree at a small Christian college in Missouri, and worked as a youth director at two United Methodist churches in Arkansas.

Coupeville Methodists host Bible School
The Coupeville United Methodist Church will be offering Vacation Bible School from Monday, Aug. 8 through Friday, Aug. 12 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Children ages 3 through those entering grade 5 are welcome to attend. Contact the church office at 678-4256.
Church creates cafe for kids
The Oak Harbor First United Methodist Church is presenting its Shake-It Up Cafe held Aug. 8 though 12, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for children aged 3 years old to just out of fifth-grade.
In this kid-friendly café full of chef’s hats and aprons, pots and pans, checkered tablecloths, and chalk-board menus, kids explore the Bible as a cookbook filled with recipes for living out God’s word. Signup online today at oakharborfumc.org.
