An Oak Harbor woman is facing charges after allegedly hitting an accident victim’s remains on Interstate 90 in Montana.
Wyran V. Young, 31, was charged with failure to remain at the scene of a fatal accident in Sweet Grass County, and tampering with evidence.
Investigators allege Young went to a carwash and washed the man’s remains from a pickup truck she was driving, according to a news article published in the Billings Gazette.
Her father, Westley L. Young, 50, was also charged in Park County, Montana with alleged tampering with evidence. He allegedly helped his daughter wash the truck.
According to The Gazette, the charges were filed on Nov. 8 and the Youngs were served by authorities in Oak Harbor Tuesday.
The father and daughter are ordered to appear for arraignment Dec. 10 in District Court in Big Timber, according to The Gazette.
Police are still investigating the cause of death for Elgie Bedford, 81, of Wasilla, Alaska, according to The Gazette.
Charging documents say Bedford’s badly damaged body was found on the roadway on Sept. 30 and it appeared he was struck by several vehicles.
Island County authorities assisted in the investigation.
When police arrived to question the Youngs on Oct. 6, Westley Young allegedly told police that a semi-truck in front of them hit the man first, according to The Gazette.
The pickup in question was seized, and officials with the Washington State Patrol alleged in court documents that the undercarriage showed evidence of human tissue, bones and DNA, The Gazette reported.
