Oak Harbor crushes Everett 34-6

Everett had the distinction of being the first varsity football opponent to score a touchdown on Oak Harbor at the new Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

But one touchdown is far from enough to defeat Oak Harbor’s offensive machine.

Rodrick Rumble accounted for 126 all-purpose yards and scored a pair of touchdowns as the Wildcats’ express rolled over the Seagulls 34-6 in a Friday WesCo North matchup.

Oak Harbor put the first points on the board when quarterback Johnny Encinas hooked up with Rumble on an 18-yard scoring strike with 1:51 remaining in the opening quarter. Mike Johnston added the extra point and the Wildcats were off and running 7-0.

Everett scored with 8:03 on the clock in the second period on a 17-yard Brice Herrick to Rendell Jones pass, but the extra-point attempt was blocked and the Wildcats remained on top 7-6.

Chris Valencia scored for the Wildcats from a yard out with 1:27 remaining before halftime, Oak Harbor went into the locker room with a 14-6 lead.

Encinas was sharp to open the second half directing a five play, 65-yard drive capped by a 16-yard touchdown pass to Michael Bell, increasing the lead to 20-6.

In the final 12 minutes of the game, the Seagulls were worn down after getting hammered by the stout Oak Harbor offensive and defensive linemen for three quarters of play.

Jake Rouser scored on a 1-yard run at the 8:48 mark and Rumble put the final points on the board with 4:28 remaining on a 1-yard pass from Encinas.

Oak Harbor remains on top of the WesCo North with a 4-0 league record and a 5-0 overall mark.
