Whidbey Island Naval Air Station invites Navy and civilian hunters to attend one of two “one-stop shop” meetings that will provide an overview of the base rules for the 2009-2010 hunting season.

The meetings are scheduled for Sept. 30 and Oct. 14 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Crescent Harbor Adventures, 150 Tulagi Ave., Bldg. 2735 on the Seaplane Base. Information will cover on-base hunting permit requirements, hunting areas and base access procedures. Hunters may register after the meetings, and permits cost $13.

Hunters must purchase a Washington state hunting license in order to receive a permit. Licenses can be purchased in Oak Harbor at Ace Hardware, Kmart and Wal-Mart; in Coupeville at Red Apple Market; or online at fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov.

Hunters must present the specific licenses for the species they wish to hunt in order to receive a NAS Whidbey hunting permit. Civilian hunters may participate in the pheasant release program at Outlying Field in Coupeville with the purchase of a permit and proof of their Washington state hunting license; however, they may not hunt on the Seaplane Base or Ault field without an active duty, retired military, veteran or Department of Defense sponsor.

Active duty, retired military, veterans and Department of Defense personnel with their Washington state hunting license and permit may hunt at Outlying Field, the Seaplane Base and Ault Field.

Hunters must bring the correct documents to the meeting of their choice in order to receive a permit. Pheasant hunters must provide a Department of Defense or state-issued picture identification card or badge, Washington state small game license and Western Washington pheasant permit (with odd/even selection). Waterfowl hunters must present a Department of Defense-issued identification card, Washington state small game license, state migratory bird validation and federal duck stamp (attached to your license and signed across the face).
