Grace Winnie Wichers

Grace Winnie Wichers died Oct. 10, 2009, at Home Place Special Care Center, Oak Harbor, at the age of 85. She was one of three children born to Henry John and Winnie (Roetcisoender) Wichers. Grace was born in Everett, Wash., on Aug. 17, 1924. At eight years of age, she and her family moved to Lynden and in 1934, Oak Harbor became their permanent home.

Grace was raised on the family farm and attended the Oak Harbor Christian School. She loved roller-skating and riding her bike. She enjoyed music and playing the organ. She also loved to travel, especially with family.

Grace was a very active member of the Christian Reformed Church of Oak Harbor. She participated in the women’s group and also supported the San de Fuca Chapel, by attending church services and the potlucks once each month.

Grace is survived by her sister-in-law, Dee Wichers of Oak Harbor; one nephew, Dave Wichers and his wife JoAnn of Oak Harbor; two nieces, Kathy Passmore and husband Pat of Tumwater and Debbie Fisher and husband Tony of Mount Vernon; two great-nieces, Rachel Fisher and Cashel Passmore; and three great-nephews, Ryan Fisher, Chris Wichers and Daniel Wichers and wife Amber. Her parents, one brother John Henry Wichers and one sister Kathleen Johanna Wichers preceded her in death.

Memorial services for Grace Wichers will be held at the Oak Harbor Christian Reformed Church at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, with Pastor Randy Beumer officiating. Family graveside services preceded at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Oak Harbor Christian Reformed Church Memorial Fund.
