Santa is trading in his sleigh for a fire engine.

Central Whidbey Fire and Rescue’s Santa Mobile is winding its way through the district’s neighborhoods this month. It provides a festive way to celebrate the holiday season and inform residents about the fire district’s programs.

Chad Micheal, deputy chief for Central Whidbey Fire and Rescue, said the Santa Mobile is a great way to talk to residents about programs the fire district offers. During their trips through neighborhoods, firefighters can touch upon such programs as the hands-only CPR class the district offers or how to get a free carbon monoxide detector.

“It’s an opportunity to spread some goodwill for the holidays,” Michael said.

Santa will be riding atop a fire engine through the neighborhoods. Another fire district vehicle blaring Christmas carols will lead the procession to announce the arrival of the Santa Mobile.

Firefighters will stop and visit homeowners throughout their trip through neighborhoods. He said the Santa Mobile will cover all neighborhoods within the fire district’s boundaries. They have already visited Coupeville and participated in the parade Saturday.

The Santa Mobile is moving between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. the following days:

• Thursday, Dec. 12 — Parker Road, Long Point, Rhodena and Harrington

• Friday, Dec. 13 — Ledgewood, Bon Air, Teronda, Ellwood Drive

• Monday, Dec. 16 — Lagoon Point, Dines Point, Honeymoon Bay

• Wednesday, Dec. 18 — North Bluff and Holmes Harbor

• Friday, Dec. 20 — Race Road, Shangri La and Admiral’s Cove
