The Arlington High School baseball team slipped by host Oak Harbor 5-4 Friday, April 29, and, as a result, the Wildcats slipped out of playoff contention.

Oak Harbor (3-10, 5-12) will complete its season with two games with Marysville Getchell (6-7, 6-12) this week. The teams play at 4 p.m. in Marysville on Monday, May 2, and in Oak Harbor on Tuesday.

In the loss to Arlington, all of the scoring came in the first four innings.

The Wildcats started fast, scoring three runs in the first inning and one in the second. Oak Harbor’s leadoff hitter got aboard in the third, and from that point no Wildcat reached base as the final 15 Oak Harbor batters went down in order.

A walk, steal and single led to an Arlington run off Oak Harbor starter Tyler Snavely in the top of the first inning.

In the bottom of the first, Snavely led off with a double, Kevyn Johnson bunted for a base hit and Preston Rankin singled in Snavely. After an out, walks to Trent Benson and Dylan Bailey forced in a run. Robert Herring’s fielder’s choice scored the third run.

Arlington tied the game with two runs in the top of the second with the help of a double and error.

Oak Harbor reclaimed the lead in its half with a run. Chad Spradlin singled (the Wildcats’ final hit) and eventually scored on an error.

The Eagles (10-3, 12-6) scored single runs in the third and fourth to secure the win and at least second place in the Wesco North.
