For the third time this season, the Coupeville High School softball team 10-runned Port Townsend, defeating the visiting Redhawks 16-3 Friday, April 29, in five innings.

The win was the Wolves’ (3-4, 8-7) second in the past eight games, both over winless Port Townsend (0-6, 0-11).

The Wolves finish the conference season this week, going to Chimacum (6-0, 10-4) at 4 p.m. Monday, May 2, and hosting Klahowya (3-2, 8-6) at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Wolves play two 4 p.m. non-conference games (at Bellevue Christian May 10 and at La Conner May 16) before going to the district tournament May 20 and 21.

In didn’t take Coupeville long to overwhelm Port Townsend. The Redhawks scored a run in the top of the first, but Coupeville countered with five in its half and seven more in the second. Four runs in the sixth finished the scoring.

Three walks, singles by Lauren Rose and Sarah Wright and a slew of stolen bases produced the five-run first.

A triple by Wright; singles by Tamika Nastali, Mikayla Elfrank and Jae LeVine; and seven walks led to the seven-run second.

A triple Kailey Kellner and singles by Wright, Elfrank, Hope Lodell and Robin Cedillo helped score the four runs in the fourth.

Wright finished with three hits, Elfrank two and Rose, Kellner, Nastali, Lodell, LeVine and Cedillo one each.

Wright, giving usual starting pitcher Katrina McGranahan a rest, pitched a five-inning complete game, striking out 11 and surrendering three hits and nine walks.

“As usual, it was a fight to keep the game reasonable, but we managed to get some new players some valuable live game innings and at bats,” coach Kevin McGranahan said.
