A 22-year-old Oak Harbor man who admitted to pinning his wife during an argument to “settle her down” was charged with a felony, according to documents filed in Island County Superior Court.

Prosecutors charged Joshua Martin June 25 with unlawful imprisonment and assault in the fourth degree, both domestic-violence charges.

On July 9, Island County Superior Court Judge Alan Hancock ruled in court that Martin could travel out of state for a wedding or as required by the Navy.

According to a report by Oak Harbor Police Officer G. Tilleson, officers responded to a report of a “verbal domestic” at an apartment on NE Barron Drive June 14.

The female victim reported that she and Martin had an argument in bed. She said Martin climbed on top of her and pinned her down, not allowing her to leave and licking her face, the report states. When she began screaming, Martin put his hand over her mouth hard enough to make it difficult to breathe, Tilleson wrote.

Martin admitted that he pinned her down and covered her mouth, the report states. He said he didn’t want her to leave the room until the argument was settled, Tilleson wrote.
