A fire destroyed a garage and damaged a home at Crescent Harbor housing on the Navy Seaplane base early Tuesday morning.

Mike Welding, public affairs officer with Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, said nobody was injured in the blaze that started in the garage.

The cause is under investigation.

The resident reported the fire at 1:35 a.m.

Navy Region Northwest Fire and Emergency Services responded to the fire, along with one unit from Oak Harbor Fire Department and two from North Whidbey Fire and Rescue. An ambulance was also at the scene.

Welding said the fire gutted the garage and caused “significant damage” to the house.

A car parked outside the garage was also damaged.

The service member and a child were put up at the Navy Gateway Inns and Suites, he said.
