The Oak Harbor School Board will decide the fate of the former Clover Valley Elementary School Monday.

The school on Cherokee Street, which closed down in 2007, is currently serving as a North Campus for students while the main Oak Harbor High School campus is under construction.

As the renovation comes to a close this fall, the district has been looking at plans for the vacated space.

In the past several months many entities, including the Navy, have expressed an interest in the building, but the recommendation last week was to use the campus for district purposes.

The plan would include moving HomeConnection, the learning program that combines public schools with home-schoolers, to Clover Valley. Another area of the campus would house the Head Start program and developmental pre-school classes. The district would then upgrade portions of the school, including the student bathrooms.

“The school board was very positive and enthusiastic about the plan, across the board,” Lance Gibbon, assistant superintendent, said. “They said it felt like it was a good use of community resources.”

In a separate, upcoming school board meeting the board will also look at a plan for the future of Midway High School. The program could move into the lower level of the Administrative Services Center, where HomeConnection is located, if HomeConnection relocates.

A vote to approve the Clover Valley recommendation will be held Monday night at 6:30 p.m., in the board room of the district office building. The building is located at 350 S. Oak Harbor St.
