A public meeting will take place Wednesday, March 24, at 5:30 p.m., at the Monroe Landing Fire Station to gauge public sentiment about the possibility of the Port of Coupeville conducting a feasibility study to acquire the neighboring air field.
Port Executive Director Jim Patton said that Joel Eisenberg, a Seattle businessman who claims he has title to the airfield, wants the Port of Coupeville to conduct the feasibility study in hopes the public entity will annex and eventually purchase the property from him.
The Port of South Whidbey conducted a similar feasibility study to acquire an airfield commonly called Porter Field. However, when the study was given to the public, officials found there wasn’t any support for the plan.
